Who we are

We’re The Subtext, a marketing agency built by people who’d rather ask “why?” than “what’s trending?”. We have zero interest in being just another. Our digital marketing services are built on curiosity, craft, and a refusal to phone it in.  We think great content marketing comes from curiosity and the refusal to stay shallow. Better for the brands we work with, better for their audiences, and, honestly, better for us.  It’s a little extra work, but we’re fine with that.

The Fine Print

(because any top marketing agency knows that everything important lives in the subtext)

Disclaimer: This is a work-in-progress, just like us.

We started The Subtext as friends who couldn’t find an agency we’d actually want to work at.

Too many decks, not enough gut. Too much gloss, not enough grounding.

We saw 3000 versions of the same model: take brief, chase trend, meet deadline, repeat.

And honestly?
We’re glad it works for them.
But it didn’t work for us.

We’ve been the ones burning out to ship something “relevant.”
We’ve been in rooms where speed won over soul.
We’ve helped build brands that sounded right but … didn’t feel right.

And after a while, we knew:
We’d rather do less. But do it with our whole chest.

So we made a different kind of studio.
No fixed formulas. No hierarchy of taste. No pretending to be bigger than we are.

Just a handful of people who care deeply about how things land and not just how they look (This did take some unlearning, to be honest.)

We don’t have a 10-step process.
But we do have a growing list of absolutes.

Things We Don’t Do

(A list of 15, and counting. Because unlearning is part of the job.)

No “make it pop.” “make it bigger” Ever.

No “engagement” for engagement’s sake.

No using AI to create bland things faster.

No identity without substance.

No forcing trends where they don’t belong

No pretend five-round edits.

No corporate-speak unless it’s the punchline.

No fake urgency.

No ghosting clients, collaborators, ideas or cats.

No watered-down voice just to fit in.

No templated thinking in the name of “efficiency.”

No working with people who treat creatives like service providers.

No filling pages just to justify a retainer.

No vibe-killing PDFs titled “final_final_v8.”

No shame in saying “we don’t know yet.”

No sandwich

leaves ever.

We’re not trying to disrupt the industry.

We’re just here to work with people who like building things that feel good and make sense.
People who believe in clarity, curiosity, and creative work that has staying power.

If that sounds like you, pull up a chair. We’ve saved you a seat.

Near you. Near perfect.
Your new marketing agency.
